Breakout Privacy Policy
Last updated: 18 October 2026
Breakout is an app that helps streamers and content creators understand their stats, plan their content and get ideas from an AI coach. This policy explains, in plain English, what information Breakout collects, why, who it's shared with, how long it's kept, and the choices and rights you have.
By creating a Breakout account you agree to this policy and to our Terms of Use.
1. Who we are
Breakout is run by Christopher Patton, an individual based in the United Kingdom ("we", "us"). We are the "controller" of your personal information, which means we decide how it's used and we're responsible for looking after it.
Questions, requests or complaints about privacy: developerpatoon@gmail.com
2. What we collect
Your account
- Your name (or creator name) and email address.
- Your password. It's stored scrambled (hashed), so nobody, including us, can read it.
Platforms you connect (YouTube and Twitch)
You choose whether to connect each platform. When you do, you sign in with that platform and approve read-only access. Breakout can't post, edit or delete anything on your channels.
- Access keys that let Breakout read your stats. These are kept on our server and never stored on your phone.
- Basic channel details: channel name, ID and profile picture.
- YouTube (using YouTube API Services): channel and video statistics such as views, watch time, subscribers, likes, comments, shares, how far people watch, traffic sources, audience age, gender, country and devices, and your recent uploads. Breakout fetches these when you open the app. They aren't saved on our server, except in AI coach results (see below).
- Twitch: followers, subscriber count (if you're an Affiliate or Partner), live status, past broadcasts and clips. While you're live, Breakout records your viewer count every 2 minutes, along with the stream's start time, title and game, so it can show your average and peak viewers.
Information about your viewers and followers
Some stats are about other people. To count your Twitch followers, Breakout briefly reads your follower list (account IDs and when they followed). YouTube audience stats (age, gender, country, device) are totals provided by YouTube. Breakout only uses these to work out totals and trends for you. It never stores details about individual followers or viewers, and never contacts them.
The AI coach
- The questions you ask the coach and its answers, so you can see past conversations without asking again.
- Each week's ideas the coach creates for you.
- A daily count of how many times you've used the coach, so nobody can overload it.
Your plan
- The tasks you add to your weekly plan (title, type, date, time and whether it's done).
Technical information
- When the app talks to our server, our hosting providers automatically record basic technical details, such as your IP address, the time, which feature was used and whether it worked. These logs are used to keep Breakout secure and fix problems, and are kept for a short time (currently up to 7 days).
- When the app checks for updates, Expo receives basic details such as the app version and phone type (Android or iPhone).
On your phone only
- Small preferences such as which sections you've folded away and your date filter. These stay on your device and aren't sent to us.
What we don't collect
- We don't use advertising trackers, sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps or websites.
- We don't collect your location, contacts, photos or payment details.
3. Why we use it (and our legal basis)
UK data protection law requires us to have a legal reason for each use.
| What we do | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Create and run your account, sign you in, reset your password | Needed to provide the service you asked for (contract) |
| Show your stats, charts, best times to post and go live | Contract |
| Record Twitch viewer counts while you're live | Contract |
| Create AI coach ideas and answer your questions | Contract |
| Limit how often the AI coach can be used, keep the service secure, prevent abuse, keep short technical logs to fix problems | Our legitimate interest in running a safe, reliable service |
| Send account emails (confirm your email, reset your password) | Contract |
| Keep records we're required to keep by law | Legal obligation |
We don't use your information for advertising, and we don't make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about you using automated processing. The AI coach's suggestions are ideas only; you decide what to do with them.
4. Who we share it with
We only share information with companies that help us run Breakout ("processors"). They may only use it to provide their service to us.
| Company | What they do for Breakout | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, sign-in and server functions. Stores your account, plan, connections and coach history | UK (London) |
| Anthropic (makers of Claude) | Powers the AI coach. When you use the coach, a summary of your stats (and, when comparing videos, their titles and thumbnail images) is sent to Anthropic, only to create your answer. Neither Breakout nor Anthropic uses it to train AI models (see section 12) | United States |
| Brevo | Sends account emails (email confirmation, password reset codes) | France (EU) |
| Expo | Delivers app updates to your phone | United States |
Platforms you connect: Breakout reads your data from Google/YouTube and Twitch with your permission. Their own privacy policies apply to the data they hold: the Google Privacy Policy and the Twitch Privacy Notice.
We'll only share your information with anyone else if the law requires it (for example, a valid court order), to protect someone's safety, or as part of selling or transferring Breakout, in which case this policy would continue to apply.
5. Information leaving the UK
Some of the companies above are based outside the UK (in the EU and United States). Your saved data is stored in London, but Breakout's server functions may run in whichever Supabase location is nearest to you, so your requests can be handled outside the UK. When your information goes abroad, we make sure it's protected, for example by using the UK–US "data bridge" for certified companies or the UK's approved data transfer contracts. The EU is recognised by the UK as having adequate protection.
6. How long we keep it
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Account (name, email) | Until you delete your account |
| Platform access keys | Until you disconnect that platform or delete your account, then deleted straight away |
| Twitch viewer counts | 12 months, then deleted |
| AI coach questions and answers | Until you remove them or delete your account |
| AI coach weekly ideas | 12 months, then deleted |
| AI coach usage counts | 90 days |
| Plan tasks | Until you delete them or your account |
| Sign-in links used when connecting a platform | A few minutes |
| Technical logs | Up to 7 days |
YouTube data from YouTube API Services, including coach results based on it, is deleted within 7 days if you disconnect YouTube in Breakout or delete your account. If you remove Breakout's access in your Google account settings instead, we delete it within 30 days. Breakout also checks regularly that it still has your permission, and deletes YouTube data it can no longer refresh.
Deleted information may remain in our hosting provider's backups for a short time before it's overwritten.
7. Your choices and rights
In the app
- Disconnect YouTube or Twitch at any time from Account. This cancels Breakout's access with that platform and deletes the access keys.
- Remove past coach questions.
- Delete your account from Account. This permanently deletes your account and everything linked to it within 7 days. You can also ask us to delete it by emailing developerpatoon@gmail.com, or at https://breakoutapp.co.uk/delete-account.
Deleting your data in Breakout doesn't affect anything stored by YouTube or Twitch themselves.
Removing Breakout from your Google account
You can also remove Breakout's access to your YouTube account at any time from Google's security settings: https://security.google.com/settings/security/permissions.
Your rights under UK data protection law
You have the right to:
- get a copy of the information we hold about you
- have it corrected if it's wrong
- have it deleted
- object to or restrict how we use it
- get it in a format you can move to another service
To use any of these rights, email developerpatoon@gmail.com. We'll reply within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO): ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or 0303 123 1113.
8. Keeping it safe
- Everything is sent over encrypted connections.
- Each person can only see their own data (enforced by the database itself).
- Platform access keys are only ever used by our server and are never sent to your phone.
- Breakout only asks for read-only access to your channels.
- Passwords are stored hashed.
No system is perfectly secure. If something goes wrong that puts your information at risk, we'll tell you and the ICO where the law requires it.
9. Children and young people
Breakout isn't meant for anyone under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Many creators are teenagers, so Breakout is designed to be safe for 13 to 17 year olds too, in line with the UK's Age Appropriate Design Code:
- There are no ads, no advertising profiles, and no selling or sharing of data for marketing.
- Your stats, plan and coach conversations are private to you. There are no public profiles and no way for other users to contact you.
- Breakout doesn't collect your location.
- We use the minimum information needed for each feature, and explain it in plain language.
If you're under 18, it's a good idea to talk to a parent or guardian about the apps you use and the accounts you connect.
10. Emails we send
We only send emails needed for your account, such as confirming your email address and password reset codes. We don't send marketing emails. If we ever start a newsletter, it will be opt-in: you'll only get it if you choose to sign up, and you can leave at any time.
11. Cookies
The Breakout app doesn't use cookies or advertising identifiers. It stores your sign-in on your phone so you stay logged in, and a few display preferences.
12. YouTube and data from Google
Breakout uses YouTube API Services to show your YouTube statistics. By connecting YouTube, you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service. Google's handling of your data is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.
Breakout's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In practice, this means data from your YouTube account:
- is only used to provide and improve the features you see in Breakout (your stats, charts, best times and AI coach)
- is only shared with the processors listed in section 4, and only to provide those features
- is never sold, and never used for advertising
- is never used to develop, improve or train generalised AI or machine learning models, by Breakout or by Anthropic. It's sent to Anthropic only to create your own coach answers
- isn't read by any person unless you ask us to (for example, for support), it's needed for security, or the law requires it
13. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If the change is significant, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
